Itgenobr344 : OAuth2 State Error in Query Tool & Data Hub v25.0.227 - Exact Online Connection Failed

OAuth2 State Error in Query Tool & Data Hub v25.0.227 - Exact Online Connection Failed

After upgrading to Invantive Query Tool and Data Hub version 25.0.227, we are experiencing critical OAuth2 issues affecting Exact Online connections:

  • Query Tool: Hangs indefinitely during OAuth2 grant flow
  • Data Hub: Crashes with “Missing state” error when Exact Online is in connection containers

Error:

Error itgenobr344:
ValidationException
at Invantive.Data.OAuth.OAuthBackgroundProvider.GetOAuthAccessTokenForEOL(...)
Message: "Missing state"

Please follow on the main topic:

Not sure what to use since it’s all in Dutch. I’ll post here.

An alternative approach has been adopted to enable users to log in to Exact Online from Invantive Data Hub once again. The approach used in Invantive Data Hub in recent years is no longer viable on Exact Online due to technological changes.

The alternative approach involves using Invantive Cloud to manage login credentials. Over the course of the coming week, a separate node will be added to Invantive Cloud named “Invantive Credentials Server”. This node can be used to request the so-called “access token”. This will allow Invantive Data Hub to continue to be used with on-premises systems and databases, with credentials being exchanged (in part) via Invantive Cloud.

Please make the following preparations if you wish to switch to using the Invantive Credentials Server:

  • Log in to Invantive Cloud using the licence coordinator’s email address.
  • Create a new ‘service account’ user as described at Manage users on Invantive Cloud.
  • Check that you can log in as this service user. The menu will remain largely empty.
  • Log in again as the licence coordinator.
  • Create a database using the Exact Online credentials from your settings*.xml.
  • Tick the new checkbox labelled “Allow Invantive Credentials Server Use” on the database screen.
  • Add the IP address from which Invantive Data Hub will connect to Invantive Cloud to request the access token to the database.

The migration involves the following steps (to be supplemented if necessary):

  • Upgrade Invantive Query Tool to a release due to be available next week
  • Upgrade Invantive Data Hub to a release due to be available next week
  • Replace the Exact Online login details in settings*.xml for the Exact Online data container with the connection details required for the Invantive Credentials Server.

If you require assistance with this, please book a short consultation.

A Dutch version of the above can be found at Error itgenobr344: Missing state.

Work on the Invantive Credentials Server has begun and the roll out chain has been prepared to implement the necessary changes swiftly.

The combination of Invantive Data Hub with the latest addition to Invantive Cloud: Invantive Credentials Server, makes it possible to use Exact Online again, including in combination with local environments such as an on-premises SQL Server.

The improvements now meet the quality and security standards required for production use.

The changes will be included in release 26.0 and will then be available for download. This is expected to take 1 calendar day.

Further information about Invantive Credentials Server can be found at:

The new <credentials> tag for use in settings*.xml is described in:

https://documentation.invantive.com/Invantive+UniversalSQL/General/Settings.xml#Structure

The new version 26.0.144 of Invantive Data Hub, when used in conjunction with Invantive Credentials Server, now handles Invantive’s own rather complex internal processing without any issues.

This new version is available and resolves the issue. A step-by-step guide for the migration will be added once a few users have migrated. If you require assistance with installation and configuration, you can schedule a brief consultation via the chat box at the bottom right.

The new version of Invantive Data Hub also makes it possible to run multiple instances simultaneously against the same Exact Online environment. The throughput capacity is then (partly) shared, but can sometimes be increased as other intermediate steps can utilise the remaining capacity.

The versions on download.invantive.com have been replaced by the currently recommended versions of Invantive Data Hub.

The migration steps can be found at:

Limitations

The following limitations apply:

  • Please note that <credentials> is not supported on earlier versions and will not be supported in future. This also applies to release 24.0.
  • We advise users who previously ran Invantive Data Hub on release 24.0 or release 25.0 to take into account the migration steps and/or regression bugs.
  • An Exact Online client ID that is no longer in use can be removed. This may save costs.
  • At present (24 June 2026), there is no public 26.0 release of Invantive Query Tool. Users of Invantive Data Replicator should use Invantive Data Hub exclusively due to version number alignment. Users who do not use Invantive Data Replicator may use version 25.0, provided that the contents of the original settings file are available.

We recommend trying version 26.0.164 of Invantive Data Hub, available for download at https://download.invantive.com as the “current” version.

This release should resolve the itgencmr406 error message.

We have not yet been able to reproduce an issue which involves confusion regarding the selection of databases.

If a previous version is already installed, the contents of the zip file can be copied over the files of the same name.
