Problem

When connecting from Invantive Query Tool or Invantive Control for Excel to an Exact Online country, the following error may occur:

Background

Invantive Query Tool and other Invantive products for Exact Online no longer bundle pre-registered apps on Exact Online, just like previously already on Invantive Data Hub.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please register a custom client ID as described on Registration Exact Online app for use with Invantive Control for Excel.

Then log on using one of the following approaches:

  1. Manual entry of verification code; using the so-called “Implicit Grant Flow”, this requires you to enter the verification code every ten minutes.
  2. Automatic entry of verification code; using the so-called “Implicit Grant Flow”, the verification code is automatically entered every ten minutes.
  3. Automatic entry of verification and automatic re-connect after ten minutes; using the so-called “Code Grant Flow” with automatic refresh token generation no verification codes are used.

Best is to start of with the first approach and once comfortable move to more automated approaches.

Manual entry of verification code for Exact Online

To log on to Exact Online with manual entry of the verification code, enter the following values with the Exact Online database:

  • User name
  • Password
  • Client ID from the registration.
  • Redirect URL from the app registration.

Then press log on. The user name and password will be entered into Exact Online automatically and you can complete the log on using the current verification code for Exact Online from your Authenticator app on telephone or device.

To log on to Exact Online with automatic entry of the verification code, enter the following values with the Exact Online database:
